The Spirit of our Mustangs

Alex Hurtsellers - 7th/8th Grade Creative Writing and 9th Grade World History Teacher

What is the first thing you do in the morning?

I check the time.

What is your go-to song of the moment?

Coffee Blues by Mississippi John Hurt

What is something that most people don't know about you?

I used to play in a touring punk rock band.

Describe Mill Springs in three words.

No dull moments.

Sweet or Savory?

Sweet, of course. Anyone that knows me knows that my sweet tooth is almost a problem!

What or who makes you laugh the most?

Mr. Zach in technology makes me laugh the most. We’ve been best friends since our time as students at MSA and those years have been full of laughter.

Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?

Yes! My nickname growing up was “Gator.” Because my parents often called me “Al”, they would add, perhaps naturally, an “igator” to it, which was eventually shortened to just “Gator.” Students, please do not call me Mr. Gator.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

The trees are excellent in the Upper Peninsula. Perhaps, Marquette, MI. Unfortunately, my wife is not a fan of long winters, so I’ll have to stick it out here until further notice.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

I am most proud of my beautiful son, Henry.
