MSA Cross Country Team Excels

The MSA Cross Country Team has had a couple of exciting weeks! Coach Judy and I are so proud of the entire team!

On Thursday, October 15, our team competed in the AAC Championship meet. Our boys took home the 2nd place trophy, with Josiah Altland finishing just one second shy of his personal record (PR) and Jody Cleveland earning the 1st place spot in the boys' race. Kayden Stanley, who has been having a stellar season, earned the 2nd place spot in the girls' race and set a new (PR)!

Just two days later, the morning of the 17th, Jody Cleveland, Justin Bryan, and Josiah Altland competed in the Dominion Dash at Dominion Christian School (DCS). All three had excellent performances, with Justin finishing only 25 seconds shy of his PR after pushing through to an impressive finish after rolling his ankle during the race! Jody Cleveland finished in 2nd place, just 20 seconds shy of his season-best time.

While these three boys were competing in the 5k at DCS, teammate Zach Smith was challenging himself in his very first 13k race at the Running Scared event in Dawsonville. Zach finished his race in 1 hour one minute and scored a sweet metal for coming in 1st place in his age group!

On Tuesday this week, the team traveled back to DCS for the GISA Region State Qualifier. It was a very hot and dry day, but our Mustangs persevered! Callie Craig and Galton Schobloher each set a new PR, and Sam Henslee, who was coming off a knee injury, was only 12 seconds shy of his season-best time! Jody Cleveland came in 1st place in the boys' race, and our boys' team has qualified to compete at the State Meet in Macon, GA, on November 7.

We have certainly had a challenging season, but this team has risen to every challenge. I want to highlight our newbies to the team, Elizabeth Bundy, Katherine Adair, Josiah Altland, Callie Craig, and Justin Bryan, most of who are new to running and have been just spectacular!
