Want to make summer reading come to life? Join Courtney for a week of fun and learning, centered around our required summer reading. We'll have read-alouds, skits, comprehension games, and activities, hands-on art projects and super cool writing activities, plus some Brain Break and outdoor activities, designed to enhance our required summer reading experience.

Summer Enrichment Session - Academics & Water World

This camp is designed to enrich your child's academic learning while also providing them with a fun and structured opportunity to participate in thematic camp-based activities. The first portion of the day, the children will work closely with camp directors and MSA teachers, Michael Adams and Michael Griffeth, to make progress on their summer academic activities (such as summer reading & math packets). Afterward there will be a structured break to play games, socialize, and eat lunch. The afternoon activity this week will be Cooking!
Come and beat the heat with this popular seminar that is totally focused on water-related fun! Each day, campers will travel to a different pool/water park, (such as the Roswell Area park pool and the Cherokee County Aquatic Center and Water park), to enjoy the aquatic amenities and to unwind after a productive morning of academics!

Week 2 June 17-21

Each day, the students will be presented with a topic, watch a video and play interactive games while working on communication/pragmatic skills Activities include: play board games in groups while working on pragmatic skills, work in teams to discuss strategies and effective means of communication and intent - including finding items in a scavenger hunt, Pictionary, Charades, narrative writing, cooking-preparing a meal, eating out, and providing clear directions to the student's home, shopping area, or various buildings at Mill Springs.
Daily topics include:
- Mindfulness - learn how to control emotions and employ breathing exercises when one needs to take a break or de-stress. (I'm also a health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition).
- Maintaining a conversation - after learning and watching videos regarding a particular pragmatic topic, the students will then role play by responding to others, learn about using non-verbal communication, share in the conversation and drive the conversation.
- The students will work together to tell a narrative, using adequate words to describe thoughts and ideas.
- Conversation etiquette-making small talk, giving and receiving compliments.
- Restaurant etiquette - ordering, tipping, how much to tip, and how to figure out the tip.
- Identify the problem and find solutions to the problems.
- Identify a condescending tone and read people's moods.
- Show empathy.
- Repair communication conversations and social consequences.
- Public vs. private communication.
- Navigate GPS in a tech world to be savvy.
- Using non-literal language, indirect language, using humor and sarcasm, and figurative language.

This camp is designed to enrich your child's academic learning while also providing them with a fun and structured opportunity to participate in thematic camp-based activities. The first portion of the day, the children will work closely with camp directors and MSA teachers, Bryan Sellers and Kris Hawksworth, to make progress on their summer academic activities (such as summer reading & math packets). Afterward there will be a structured break to play games, socialize, and eat lunch. The afternoon activity this week will have a nature theme!
In the afternoon campers will participate in various nature hikes around Alpharetta, a program at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, and a trip to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens! Join us for some good NATURED fun!
Students will need to pack a lunch each day.

This camp is designed to enrich your child's academic learning while also providing them with a fun and structured opportunity to participate in thematic camp-based activities. The first portion of the day, the children will work closely with camp directors and MSA teachers, Michael Adams and Michael Griffeth, to make progress on their summer academic activities (such as summer reading & math packets). Afterward there will be a structured break to play games, socialize, and eat lunch. The afternoon activity this week will be Woodworking!
This seminar is designed to teach campers the basics of crafting with wood. Throughout the course of the week, campers will construct several projects to take home and enjoy, such as birdhouses, toolboxes, and candy dispensers. Campers will also have the opportunity to paint and decorate their creations at the end of the week.

Need help getting your Community Service done? This full day camp is just for you!! It will be focused on doing a variety of projects in the Milton community. MSA participants will earn 30 hours of community service for attending this camp. Some projects will include making baked goods for firefighters and police officers in the local area, making and delivering blankets to CHOA, making sandwiches to take to shelters. This camp is aimed at having fun while giving back to the community.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT SESSION - ACADEMICS & FISHING

This camp is designed to enrich your child's academic learning while also providing them with a fun and structured opportunity to participate in thematic camp-based activities. The first portion of the day, the children will work closely with camp directors and MSA teachers, Michael Adams and Michael Griffeth, to make progress on their summer academic activities (such as summer reading & math packets). Afterward there will be a structured break to play games, socialize, and eat lunch. The afternoon activity this week will be Fishing!
Come and attempt to "hook the big one" with this popular seminar! Campers will travel to various local fishing spots each day and receive instruction (if needed) on how to properly rig a fishing rod/reel, casting a line, as well as catching and releasing fish safely. All skill levels are welcome. This seminar will begin in the morning, with academic activities taking place in the afternoon.
