HELPER-GRAM/RECORDING STUDIO/COMEDY Camp!

This camp is currently full, but you can add your name to the waitlist using the form below.

JUNE 22-26  -  $295

Instructor: Kate McElliott, partnering with Secret Cove Recording Studio and The Children’s Museum of Pittsburg

Mill Springs Academy is still offering DRAMA CAMP this summer! We have some wonderful opportunities to work remotely to engage students and help expose them to a whole new way to enjoy and share the arts. This year’s camp will have three pieces:

HELPER-GRAM - How can we all help each other during this time? We have the power to cheer each other up. What often helps cheer people? MUSIC! JOKES! Students in camp will learn how to craft songs together uniquely catered to people in the community to send to individuals and groups to cheer them or to create some comedy reels for the same effect. We will be pairing with The Children’s Museum of Pittsburg (where Mrs. Rogers serves on the board) for this special project to be the “helpers” in our community. We’ll spend a third of each day learning jingles and comedy reels for helper-grams and reaching out to organizations and individuals to send them!

RECORDING STUDIO - Students will have private lessons daily to learn a song, will learn how to use technology to record their song (simple! low stress!), and they will design a virtual CD cover to go along with their song.  Their final piece will be finished at a professional recording studio (remotely), and their final professional studio track will be shareable.

COMEDY CAMP - We will spend a good part of each day doing fun improv games and comedy skits. Some of these might end up being used for our helper-grams, but we will also learn the basics of comedy and improvisational theater along the way.

Camp will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Zoom. Students must have access to Zoom on a computer, phone, or tablet. They should also have a second device they can use for playing tracks. Any materials needed for camp will be mailed to participants (costume shirts, etc.).  Camp will be over at 4pmeach day, but that does not mean we will be zooming for seven hours each day. The schedule will involve different sessions throughout the day, including the private zooms for voice lessons/recording, the group zoom for comedy camp time, and some work they can choose to do between zooms as they work on their helper-grams.

This camp is appropriate for ages 8-18, so long as they are able to run Zoom, play music tracks, and follow directions to make recordings. Parents and students will Zoom individually with the instructor a few weeks before camp to check and learn the simple technology needed for this session so that students can be working independently at home with classmates/instructors during camp week.
