Sunshine in their Hearts

This has been one interesting week in the construction world again, they have begun to form the cement walls and staircase. That is all documented in the Construction Blog so check it out if you have a chance. We had our first Booster Pizza Day and earlier in the week our Board of Trustees had their monthly meeting. Then we had the myriad of sports: Middle Soccer, Varsity Volleyball, JV & Varsity Cross Country.

Well it may be rainy, but there is sunshine in their hearts. I heard the kids going across the street to the Student Activity Center - they were very animated, laughing and smiling so the rain did NOT dampen their spirit! I hope that continues for you throughout the weekend. Have a great weekend!

2015-16 Swim Team

We are very excited to announce the upcoming 2015-16 swim season at MSA.  Last year the team had an amazing season, and we are looking forward to another terrific athletic and social experience for our student-athletes.

Even if your child has never swam on a team before, we encourage them to come out and join a very fun and rewarding sport that offers an outstanding level of cardiovascular exercise, fun competitions, and a great opportunity to meet new  friends.  (Students from Middle, PreUpper, CommArts and Upper School are welcome to join!)

Once again, Josh Hersko will be returning as Head Swim Coach.  Josh has over ten years of experience as a swim coach at the club, high school and collegiate levels.  Josh competed for Georgia Tech from 1999-2003 where he earned ... READ MORE

Alumni News

September 18th Alumnus Andrew Walker (pictured back right), Class of 2015, performed with Tony and Emmy Award winning Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth (front center) for her concert in Atlanta. Kristin wanted all the musicians on stage with her to be local and Andrew was selected along with just fourteen other youth for this "Coming Home Tour" performance. When asked about this experience, Andrew said, "I got to perform with Kristin at the Cobb Energy Center! It was cool! I never knew she was so short but she's great at what she does."

Coral Lab has Visitors

On Monday we had the pleasure of hosting a small group of students from Arbor Montessori School in Atlanta.  The group, led by former MSA teacher Michael Adams, is in the midst of a unit on marine and freshwater ecosystems.  Following a screening of the new Cousteau IMAX film at Fernbank’s Museum of Natural History, the group traveled to our lab to experience some of the film’s animal stars firsthand.  The students had the opportunity to handle a giant toadstool leather coral, watch a lion fish and puffer fish feeding, and learn about the delicate balance of water parameters that are required for coral reefs to thrive in the wild.  It was a great day in the Coral Lab and Arbor wished us all a big thank you for the opportunity . . . the ocean’s awesome!

Public Open House

Wednesday, October 7

9:00 - 11:00am

Student Activity Center

If you know someone that might benefit from attending MSA, please invite them to an Open House or better yet bring them! In case you haven't attended an Open House, it provides prospective parents with an overview of the school, a wonderful Fine Arts presentation, at least one parent and one student perspective, a tour of the school and an opportunity to speak with the principal. It's a great opportunity for them to get a feel for what we are all about. Word of mouth is by far the biggest way families find their way to Mill Springs and we know that you sometimes have the chance to be "Mill Springs on the Street", we thank you for sharing MSA!

Cross Country News

The cross country team is still blasting through the early part of the season with great success. This past week the Mustangs invited 16 GHSA, GISA, AAC and middle school teams to participate in The Mustang Stampede, our home opener invitational. In all, just over 350 runners competed in the races- our largest meet ever! Spotlight on Sophie Davis and Sam Lynch for finishing first over all in the varsity races and Jordyn DeNardo for finish first over all in the girls Middle School race. In the team standings the girl’s middle school team placed 5th, the boy’s middle school team placed 8th, and the boys Varsity team placed third overall behind Weber and Pinecrest and first in their AAC/GISA divisions.  The meet was a huge success and I want to give a big thanks to PT Group for providing assistance at the finish line, Philly Connection ... Volleyball Update

Please congratulate the Lady Mustang Volleyball team on their HUGE win Wednesday against AASD.  The girls played a great match and beat AASD in 3 straight games 25-11, 25-10, 25-8.

After a few weeks of tough matches, the players have spent time reflecting on what they needed to be doing as a team, working on improving their individual skills, and staying focused and positive.  The players looked like a well-oiled machine yesterday.  They started out strong and dominated their competition until the end.  The girls were communicating and working together and looked the best they have all season.  These girls continue to improve every match they play together.

We had wonderful serves by many of the girls, but Elli Flagg and Sara Edge went on big runs and made several points for the team.  The defensive play of Victoria Toscano, Sydney Pipes and Samantha Benjamin kept us from losing points on many plays.     READ MORE
