Pie for Breakfast??

Well we have another week (albeit short) under our belts. We "Sprung Forward" this past weekend, so we are well on our way to spring - only one week to go. I've noticed this week that the daffodils have begun to bloom along the side of the road. Before you know it, Spring Break will be here and then it's just a matter of time until May, with it's flurry of activity, comes and goes. There are only 70 days until our last day of school! Sometimes I am amazed how quickly time goes by and once we hit May, it goes quickly. Hang on because the downhill ride is about to begin!

This weekend have a slice of pie for BREAKFAST in honor of Pi Day, but make sure you do it on Saturday, 3/14/15 at 9:26:53am  (Pi=3.141592653) for you math geeks out there.  ;)  Have a great long weekend!

The Coral Lab

What's all the fuss about this Coral Lab thing? Well we started with an empty tank, added water, waved the magic wand and POOF! OK well I bet MG and Michael think it's more complicated than that, but here is what you get from all of their hard work beautiful coral:

Public Open House

Mill Springs Academy is holding an Open House!

                               Wednesday, March 18

                                         9:00am

                              Student Activity Center

Did you know that Word of Mouth is by far the largest way families find their way to a Public Open House at Mill Springs Academy? So if you know someone with a child that might benefit from attending MSA, please invite them to our Open House or better yet bring them. If you haven’t attended one, an Open House provides potential parents with an overview of the school, a Fine Arts presentation, a parent perspective and a student perspective, a tour of the school and a chance to speak with the principal. It’s a great opportunity for them to get a feel for what we are all about.

                         THANK YOU for sharing MSA!

Baseball Defeats Cottage

The Mustang Nine scored early and rode the right arm of Chandler Holt to defeat Cottage 4-3 on March 10. The senior right-hander, last year's AAC Baseball MVP struck out 11 Cougars while giving up only 3 hits. Defending League Champion MSA started early scoring 3 of their 4 runs in the first inning. Rookie Ty Harrell led off the game with a crashing single to left, his first of two hits on the day. Michael Flanigan, batting in the number two slot ripped a single up the middle and Chandler was struck by a pitch to load the bases. Sloppy fielding by the home team gave Mill Springs a 3 run lead. TCS scored a run in the bottom of the first. David Wells led off the second and was awarded first base after being struck by a pitch. Ty Harrell blasted another shot into left and Michael Flanigan followed with his second hit of the day scoring David from second base. The "Green Machine's" bats then went silent as Cottage's talented left-hander took over the game. He sent 15 Mustangs back to the bench via the strikeout. Only Chandler Holt reached base in the last 5 innings with a booming double to left.

Next up is AASD and then the tough Cottage bunch travel to Mustang Field Thursday March 19th for the rematch.

A Monumental Trip

As their Navajo guide sang an ancient prayer in his native language, the students of Communication Arts stood beneath a cathedral-like canopy of rock in beautiful Monument Valley, Arizona, staring at the blue sky through a large opening in the brilliant orange canyon wall. "I've never been to such a place as gorgeous as this in all my life," stated student Marshall Stoddart. "I didn't know rocks could come in this many colors," he added. With help from their Navajo guide, the students studied the geological forces that allowed erosion to work its magic on the sandstone. Students went both horseback riding and hiking in the valley, exploring the many multi-hued buttes, mesas, and canyon walls that have been the backdrop for so many movies. They also toured an authentic Navajo Hogan ... READ MORE

Money, Money, Money

The first graders just finished their fun math unit on money. The students have been working on identifying coins and adding money together. Donna Moore, their teacher, created a store where the students could purchase things with the money that they had earned in class. Students Demo Ham Radios

Upper School students Sam Wolff and Megan Brown, along with PreUpper student Eli Musgrave and PreUpper teacher Martha Muir joined other members of the North Fulton Amateur Radio League (NFARL) at North Springs High School on Thursday (3/5/15) to demonstrate the STEM and fun involved with amateur radio. The theme of this year's Super STEM Event was Communications Technology, a perfect fit with amateur radio.

These four, all licensed radio operators, entertained and enthralled floods of high school and middle school students, faculty members and other adults who came by our booth with various aspects of amateur radio. Among the guests who came by our booth were past parent Dr. Howard Austin and past student Noah Rittenburg. Both got fully involved in the offerings of our booth.

Sam and Megan helped our guests make voice contacts with hams in other countries such as Croatia, Montserrat, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Colombia, as well as hams across this country. READ MORE
