May 18, 2018 | Vol 11, Iss 35, No 395 NEWSLETTER One More Week Saturday was a beautiful day for graduation - I hope you are keeping an eye on Facebook, I have some daily posts that include quotes from several of the speeches that were given. You might not realize it, but we don't have a big keynote speaker come to graduation. Our Board of Trustees chair, Bruce Clayton, and Robert our headmaster, welcome everyone to graduation, but the real speakers are the graduates! Between Senior Honors Day, Baccalaureate, and Graduation we hear from many of them. Make sure you check out Facebook. The Seniors are rising to the challenge of the next phase of their life as they begin moving away from the safety of the Mustang Corral, and we release them to become Wild Mustangs. We wish them all the luck and success they deserve and we are very proud of each and every one of them. We know they will do great things. I personally look forward to seeing them come and visit when they are able. Congratulations to the Class of 2018! Summer is in sight! All the last minute preparations are being taken care of that need to be, before Honors Day comes. Library books are being turned in, final exams are being taken, lockers are being cleaned out, and end of the year parties are being held. When you get next week's MSA Weekly News, you will have a student who has grown a little, learned a lot, and hopefully enjoyed some of it along the way. Oh and they will probably eat everything in your fridge all summer long. ;) Have a wonderful weekend - one more week!

Fine Artists of the Week This was the… "GREATEST SHOW!" Students from Middle drama, the improv class, and various soloists from CommArts and Upper performed in the FINE ARTS SHOWCASE in the amphitheater last Monday. The theme was "the circus" in honor of Middle drama's performance of four numbers from the hit movie, "The Greatest Show!" It was a fun evening, and all the students involved were inspiring in their performance. Congratulations to everyone involved. You are ALL this week's "Drama Students of the Week!

Yo, Ho, Ho Ahoy, Mateys! Lower School Level L's and R's enjoyed their end of the year reward trip. They worked so hard for this trip and are truly great role models and leaders for our community. First, we had lunch at CiCi's Pizza and played in the arcade. Everyone won a ball from a game! Then, we headed to play a round of putt-putt at the Aurora Cineplex. This was some students first time ever playing putt-putt, but they all did great. We had a wonderful time on the pirate's course. The course is decorated with different waterfalls, pirate ships, and buildings. The course was challenging and fun at the same time. Lucas (our only first grader on the trip) hit a hole-in-one! We had such a wonderful time celebrating the accomplishments of our Level L's and R's. Pictured: Jack Wallace (Level R), Lucas Hennings (Level R), Lexi Murphree (Level L), Max Young (Level L), and Joshua Nanney (Level R)

Algebra - It's a Wrap This week in all of my classes (PreAlgebra, Algebra 8 and Algebra I) we wrapped up all the remaining assignments and tests. The next major item on the schedule is final exams which began on Thursday. My classes are all hard at work getting prepared for their finals by working through their final exam study guides. Utilizing the study guides, students are able to review all the material we have covered over the course of the semester and earn bonus points in the process. It is so impressive to see the amount of material we have covered, and the level of retention. I suppose all those corny songs, and math tricks have paid off! I am really hoping to see some outstanding grades on Final Exams as students look to wrap up the school year on a positive note. Good luck students!! --Josh Hersko, PreUpper Instructor

Who Wants to be a Hundredaire? This week in Middle School math, the 6th graders learned how to multiply fractions. They also applied their skills from previous lessons to simplify fractions by reducing by the Greatest Common Factor. This lesson provided a valuable review of times tables as well as complex multiplication, which is an important foundation for math in future grade levels. Once the students understood how to multiply fractions, we had a classroom competition of their fraction multiplication skills in an exciting game of, "Who Wants to be a Hundredaire?" This game is a spinoff of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and each level requires the students to multiply a more difficult set of fractions. The students worked together to make it all the way to $60 out of $100 without using any lifelines (aka teacher hints)! The photo depicts Temima Izenberg, Evan Khoo, and Seth Horwitz trying some multiplication problems on the board to keep moving up towards hundredaire status. --Alice Hall, Middle School Instructor
Moms in Prayer Tuesday, May 22, 2018 We will meet in the conference room in the Administration building (for the last time this school year) at 8:15am for about an hour. Although I hope we have people show up week after week, I know everyone is busy, so there is no long-term commitment. Come when you can. If you want more information, you can check out the Moms in Prayer website before you come. God's word says where two or three are gathered together in His name, he will be there also (Matt 18:20). We know our school will benefit from the power of prayer. Please join us!
American Literature Projects The sophomores in Erin's Communication Arts American Literature class wrapped up the semester by presenting their amazing projects on To Kill a Mockingbird. The students really let their creativity shine this year, as the projects ranged from artistic interpretations of Atticus Finch quotes to original songs. Jack Holt and Nic Allen (pictured) went above and beyond by making a documentary about the book. They interviewed the residents of Maycomb, as played by staff and fellow community members. The finished film was incredibly produced! It even included a blooper reel and commercials for invented products, such as the "Wash-o-Combo." We were all impressed by their dedication and innovative take on the project!
History Happenings This semester we have worked hard and now we are into finals, I can't believe that the semester is almost over! World History did some fabulous work on projects this year and have wrapped up their Native American segment. American History nailed the course work and debates. Economics class participated in the Stock Market Game and did a great job; Mill Springs finished in 3rd place in the State of Georgia for private schools! The Civics class participated in the E-Congress and had an opportunity to write a bill, this was a national event for Civic classes across the country. History class is history! Have a great summer. --Greg Bodeep, Upper School Instructor
