Happy Rainy Friday

Week 2 of Winter Learning has been in full swing! I know the students don't want it to end, they have been doing some really interesting and fun stuff. We held Donuts for Dads in Lower and Middle Schools today, and yesterday was the Volunteer Breakfast - I hope you were able to attend. Good luck to everyone at Junior Theater Festival this weekend, we look forward to hearing how it goes. We are moving into a short week with a Monday holiday, but then classes get back to normal for our 7th - 12th grades (sorry guys and gals!).

It may be a rainy Friday, but we have a sunny weekend in store! Have a nice long weekend - see you on Tuesday!

Art of the Week

Upper School students Charlotte Sumner and Sydney Itzkovitz spent the week of Winter Learning creating props for the spring musical "Little Shop of Horrors".

 Around the World Speakers

Thank you to all the wonderful speakers that came to talk to the PU students during the WLP seminar, Around the World in 5 Days! Jorge Weiss, father of Max, spoke to the students about Germany. Dr. Mehran Haidari, father of Zach, spoke to the students about Iran. Also a big thank you to our staff member, Roberto Tijerina, for speaking about Mexico. It was so wonderful for all of you to take the time out of your busy days to come and speak with the students. They truly enjoyed it and learned so much!

Karen Kaiser and Kris Hawksworth - PreUpper Teachers

We Couldn't Wait!

Lower School students were very excited about Donuts for Dads. Today the students had the opportunity to have breakfast with their dads or a special person in their life. They look forward to this day all year. The students have been busy preparing all week. They wrote letters and made crafts in their classes. We could not wait to share this special day with all of our wonderful dads in Lower School! --Branigan Hughes  Pictured L-R: Kevan Thieriot, Luisa Gorgoll, Matthew AllenCooper Casdia, Jackson Kennedy

 Public Open House

Wednesday, January 20

9:00 - 11:00am

Student Activity Center

If you know someone that might benefit from attending MSA, please invite them to an Open House or better yet bring them! In case you haven't attended an Open House, it provides prospective parents with an overview of the school, a wonderful Fine Arts presentation, at least one parent and one student perspective, a tour of the school and an opportunity to speak with the principal. It's a great opportunity for them to get a feel for what we are all about. Word of mouth is by far the biggest way families find their way to Mill Springs and we know that you sometimes have the chance to be "Mill Springs on the Street", we thank you for sharing MSA!

Wrestling Wins Dual Meet!

We are proud to report that our Mustangs came away as winners in two Dual Meets Wednesday night at Piedmont Academy. First we took on South Forsyth High School. Although we were short handed with three of our wrestlers in Australia and one out sick, every single MSA wrestler that stepped on the mat came away with a victory! We swept to our win over South Forsyth with five Falls and one Decision.

We then took on Pinecrest Academy in a packed gymnasium (whose students were rewarded with a non-uniform day for attending), again each of our six-man teams stepped onto the mat and came away victorious, capping an amazing double-dual meet shut-out win for the Mustangs!

Double Winners All:

  • 126 - John Ray - Senior
  • 138 - Joe Dalton - Senior
  • 145 - Mac McCullough - Sophomore
  • 152 - Brett Parks - Junior
  • 160 - Tommy Ray - Sophomore (currently undefeated on the season)
  • Hwt - Noah Terpstra - Sophomore

Do You Believe in Magic?

This week in Winter Learning, twelve PreUpper magicians have been learning some amazing tricks. Each student was given all the tools to put on their own magic show. Some of the favorite tricks learned were the card and rope tricks. On Friday, the Wonderful Magicians put on a show for the Lower School and others. We have had a wonderful week of magic! --Kris Hawksworth

Which College is Right?

Are you confused about the college search process? What information do you and your student need to know about accommodations for disabilities?

The MSA Counseling Department has the answers. Please join us for our presentation, College: Which One is Right for Me? on January 27, 2016 at 7:00pm in the Upper School Great Room. This workshop is for parents and students.

Please RSVP HERE

What an Adventure!

For two weeks Upper students have been hiking in the north Georgia mountains. We have hiked almost 50 miles and climbed 2000 stairs! We hiked up to the top of Blood Mountain and down into the creeks at Cochran Mills. We hiked through rain, sun, and ice. What an adventure these past two weeks have been for everyone. -- Bonnie Bergstresser

New Track Coach Announced

We are happy to announce the appointment of our new Head Track and Cross Country Coach, Kelli King. We are excited to have an experienced teacher/coach who will continue to assist our students in developing their skills and building our awesome track and cross country programs here in Mustang Country! Good luck to Victoria Fairley as she moves her career in a new direction.

GO MUSTANGS!

Basketball Scrimmage

On Wednesday, January 13th, the Middle School basketball team scrimmaged each other in a fun and exciting game. The Middle School team is 27 players strong this year, comprised of players from the Middle, PreUpper, and Communication Arts schools. Coaches Shannon and Courtney spilt the team in two to optimize playing time for the players. All of the players have done a wonderful job this season taking what they have learned in practice and applying these skills to their game. A lot of these skills were on display in the scrimmage on Wednesday from all of the players. If you would like to see these skills yourself we have one more home game this season on January 26th against The Cottage School. Come show  your support as they close out another great season of basketball. --Courtney Downs Pictured: The ENTIRE team getting pre-scrimmage instructions.
