It's Been a Great Week

Let's see, we got an extra hour of sleep over the weekend and then the week started out with a day off (for students, not faculty) so we had that going for us. Then there were Spring Musical Auditions, the Fall PM Program finished up this week (the Winter session starts Monday), and we held a severe weather drill yesterday. The Canned Food Drive began today and College Day was held today. We hosted over 200 students from other schools for College Day, it is always a great outreach opportunity. Also our technology department attended a technology conference near the airport in the middle of the week.

Today the sun actually peeked out from behind the clouds. It might be all we get for the weekend, which maybe raining (please, no more rain), so enjoy what you can, but overall it's been a great week.

20 Cans for Six TONS!

        November 6 - December 1, 2015

Did you know that . . .

  • The Atlanta Community Food Bank distributed 34% more food to partner agencies than in the prior fiscal year.
  • 72% of households served by ACFB do not always know where they will find their next meal.
  • 73% of households have to choose between payment for medicine or medical care and food.
  • An estimated 1.4 million Georgians receive emergency food from partner agencies of Georgia food banks.

The food we collect will be distributed among 700 not-for-profit agencies with a variety of feeding programs in 29 counties in metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Some help seniors on a fixed budget make ends meet. Others provide groceries for the working poor. Still others provide meals to the homeless.  READ MORE

Halloween Fun

Lower School had such a wonderful Halloween celebration last Friday. The students engaged in fun activities in the morning and had a fantastic party in the afternoon. Builders Ella Parsons, Kate Miller, and Abbie Carroll (pictured) are trying to put together a good plan to make a candy corn and toothpick tower. We had a competition to see who could build the highest tower. Students had to work together as a team and use critical thinking skills to build a stable tower.

Public Open House

Wednesday, November 11

9:00 - 11:00am

Student Activity Center

If you know someone that might benefit from attending MSA, please invite them to an Open House or better yet bring them! In case you haven't attended an Open House, it provides prospective parents with an overview of the school, a wonderful Fine Arts presentation, at least one parent and one student perspective, a tour of the school and an opportunity to speak with the principal. It's a great opportunity for them to get a feel for what we are all about. Word of mouth is by far the biggest way families find their way to Mill Springs and we know that you sometimes have the chance to be "Mill Springs on the Street", we thank you for sharing MSA!

 Happy Veterans Day

Wednesday is Veterans Day! This is a day that is dedicated to honoring anyone who has served in the United States military. The holiday began as a day to remember the end of World War I and was declared a holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Originally known as Armistice Day, the holiday became Veterans Day in 1954.

Thank YOU to those who served!

Grandparents Day is Coming!

Grandparents’ Day will be here soon! The special day is Friday, November 20th and starts at 9:00am in the Gym. Invitations have been sent. If your child’s grandparents have not received an invitation, please let Leila know if they are planning on attending! If your child doesn’t have a grandparent that can attend, maybe there is a special person in their life that can come in their place.

Attendance at Grandparents’ Day has been growing every year and we often end up with a full house and not enough chairs. Because of this, please know that this special event is for our grandparents only and we are not able to have parents and students attend the breakfast. If you are a parent and need to assist your child’s grandparent, please contact Leila Smith or Mary Ramirez. Students will be able to visit with their grandparents after the breakfast. We are looking forward to a wonderful event!

 Puzzle Master

Once in awhile you come across a student with exceptional puzzle skills - this year it is Zach Haidari - he is a Rubik's Cube Master!

Art Barn Field Trip

Lower School enjoyed a field trip to Art Barn on Thursday. Even though it was a dreary day, the students still had a great time on the farm! They were able to paint a picture of a chicken, brush sheep, goats and donkeys, went on a tractor ride around the farm, and held and petted baby chicks and a rooster. Pictured: Milan Pekez enjoying holding a rooster and Kevan Thieriot anxiously waiting his turn. It was a great fall day!
