Middle School is a time of tremendous growth, curiosity, and self-discovery. At Mill Springs Academy, we've designed an academic program that keeps students engaged while helping them build the knowledge, habits, and confidence they'll need for success in high school and beyond.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, students focus on core academic subjects, including English, mathematics, science, and social studies. These classes provide a strong academic foundation while incorporating the individualized support, executive functioning strategies, and differentiated instruction that help neurodivergent learners succeed.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students participate in Connections—our signature elective program that transforms student interests into meaningful learning opportunities. Connections courses are intentionally rigorous, challenging students to think critically, communicate effectively, solve problems, and apply academic concepts through hands-on, engaging experiences. Whether they're exploring engineering, visual arts, technology, entrepreneurship, culinary arts, or another area of interest, students are developing skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Project-Based Learning is woven throughout the Middle School experience, encouraging students to ask questions, investigate real-world topics, collaborate with classmates, and demonstrate their learning in creative and authentic ways. By making learning active and purposeful, students develop a deeper understanding of both the content they're studying and the process of learning itself.

Perhaps most importantly, Middle School is where students begin to better understand themselves as learners. They discover how their brains work, identify strategies that help them succeed, strengthen their executive functioning skills, and gain the confidence to advocate for themselves. By the time they enter Upper School, students are not only academically prepared—they are more independent, more self-aware, and well on their way to becoming Real World Ready.

We have seen such a big change in our daughter. She loves school so much now and she finally has friends that she can relate to. The small classroom sizes are fantastic. Math was a struggle for our daughter before, but now she loves it and her math grades have really improved. Each teacher really takes the time to make sure that each student understands what they are learning. The teachers are so loving and caring.
