Media Center

Yes! Gifts to the Media Center can help enrich the collection. All gifts and donations will be reviewed, and anything not selected for the collection will be offered to the teachers or given to charity.

The School’s policy regarding materials offered in the Media Center for staff and student access is as follows: The Mill Springs Academy Media Center adheres to the American Library Association's Freedom to Read statement and Code of Ethics. The Mill Springs Academy Media Center believes in the principles of intellectual freedom and resists all efforts to censor resources. Because our School supports a broad base population, books are organized based on age appropriateness and interest level. Teachers and Media Center staff have the right to limit checkout of inappropriate materials based upon the student's grade level, age, and reading ability. Questions from parents or staff members regarding books and materials that have been added to the Media Center are directed to the Media Specialist. If the Media Specialist is not able to resolve the issue that the parent or staff member has with the book or material, the issue will be referred to the Head of School and Principal for resolution. The final decision as to the removal of a book or material from the Media Center will reside with the Head of School. Updated August 2019.

K-5th: 2 for 2 weeks
6th-12th: 4 for 3 weeks

Exceptions may be made upon request, and books checked out with their matching audiobook are considered one item. Items may be renewed if the item is not already on hold. Students may return their materials to the Media Center, the Book Return in the Middle School, and the Book Return in the Upper School.

No fines are charged for overdue items. Students need to return and/or renew any overdue materials before additional items are checked.

The Media Specialist will determine the cost of repairing or rebinding damaged items. Lost items are assessed at the cost of the item.

The Media Center maintains flexible scheduling. Students may come before or after school between the hours of 8:00am - 4:00pm. Class visits are planned collaboratively with teachers. Individuals may come to the Media Center with teacher permission. Parents are welcome at any time during regular Media Center hours.

Yes there are three (3) computers available to access online resources and search for titles. Students may be asked to bring their laptops for instructional purposes. The Media Center is also equipped with a SMART board.
