The Lower School at Mill Springs Academy is intentionally designed to meet young neurodivergent learners where they are while helping them build the skills and confidence to thrive.

Our highly collaborative model brings together classroom teachers and specialists to provide individualized instruction and integrated support throughout the school day. Rather than teaching to a grade level, we teach to each student's needs, using flexible small groups and differentiated instruction to ensure every child is appropriately challenged and supported.

Our curriculum is organized around engaging thematic units that connect literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, communication, and critical thinking, making learning meaningful and relevant. Literacy is at the heart of our program, with daily, evidence-based instruction in reading, writing, phonics, vocabulary, and language development. Hands-on mathematics instruction encourages students to explore concepts, solve problems, and develop confidence as mathematical thinkers.

Executive functioning, social-emotional learning, and communication skills are woven into every part of the school day. Students practice organization, independence, self-regulation, and collaboration while receiving seamless support from our reading specialists, speech-language pathologists, counselor, and classroom team. Therapeutic services are integrated into the school day whenever possible, allowing students to build skills in authentic learning environments.

Beyond the classroom, students participate in enriching experiences including adaptive physical education each day, as well as frequent exposure to art, musical theater, library, and technology, giving them opportunities to explore their interests, express their creativity, and develop new talents.

At Mill Springs Academy, we believe that the strongest learning happens when school and home work together. Through ongoing communication and meaningful partnerships with families, we create an environment where every child feels understood, supported, and empowered to grow—academically, socially, and emotionally.

We have noticed a big change in our son for the better.  He is like a different kid than before Mill Springs. His confidence is soaring.  We are so impressed with the progress he has made and are so thankful he was given this chance.  He has learned more in 2 months than an entire year at his last school.
