Social Emotional Counseling

Individual counseling sessions may be arranged at the request of a student, parent, teacher, or other staff member. The counselor may speak with students about issues such as friendship, difficulty in the classroom, conflict resolution, anger, grief and loss, etc.

Group counseling sessions are offered to small groups of students and provide a safe environment to explore a range of developmentally appropriate topics. Classroom guidance may also occur to present lessons to larger groups of students.

Confidentiality is an important component of counseling and helps to build a trusting relationship with the students. Occasions may arise when confidentiality must be legally and ethically broken, and the counselors will work with the child to inform the necessary parties. The counselors and other school staff often communicate with private therapists and physicians. Release of Information forms are available for families who desire the staff at Mill Springs to be in contact with other professionals.
