A point of confusion has been when there are different test results between the rapid (antigen) test and the PCR (NAAT) test. Key to the outcome is whether the student has symptoms and/or known exposure. To clarify, below is our policy:
- If a student has a positive rapid test and a negative PCR test (within 48 hours of the rapid test), without symptoms or known exposure, the student can return to school.
- If a student has a positive rapid test and a negative PCR test and has symptoms and/or known exposure, we require the student to isolate for 10 days after the onset of symptoms, wait until at least 24 hours have passed with no fever without fever-reducing medication, and other symptoms have improved (loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation).
- If a student has a negative rapid test and a positive PCR test with symptoms and/or known exposure, we require the student to isolate for 10 days after the onset of symptoms, wait until at least 24 hours have passed with no fever without fever-reducing medication, and other symptoms have improved (loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation).
- If a student has symptoms and/or known exposure without testing, the student is required to isolate for 10 days.
