You ARE Invited

This final week of school has arrived with excitement for the summer, gladness that we will have a well deserved break, sadness that some of our friends may live far away and we might not see them for two months, but yet the excitement! The week has been filled with things that give some closure, like the final exams giving closure to the end of a class. So much excitement!

You are getting this on Thursday because we want to make sure you knew you were invited to come to Honors Day tomorrow morning. So if you didn't already know, YOU ARE INVITED to Honors Day. Please come and enjoy the morning with your student.

By the time you read this my husband and I will be in Ketchikan, Alaska (yes my summer vacation is in a winter place, yes I am the one who is more often than not wearing a sweater - even indoors) already enjoying summer vacation. I hope your summer vacation is awesome and I look forward to seeing your pictures. We will share them in the fall again.

I hope you have a terrific and safe summer.

Art of the Week

Our final Art of the Week for this year is by a talented Upper School student, Sophie Bonds. Sophie created this puzzle piece as part of an assignment in her Graphic Media class. The students were asked to create a work of digital art around the theme of "Building Communities." This along with the artwork o the other students in the class will be on display over the summer at a local architecture and engineering firm, Goodwyn Mills and Cawood, Inc. (GMC) who reached out to us recently wanting to highlight local student art at their facility. We were very proud to be chosen. Congratulations Sophie!

Thank You to the Community

I would like to take a moment to thank all of the MSA family for everything they did for my family and me. Cancer is never a nice word, it is horrible when you put terminal on the front of it, but it also shows the goodness in all people as you fight the mighty battle. I feel so very blessed to be a part of a community that is kind and caring. The meals, cards, and gifts of sunshine helped this become a fight with smiles, strength formed from others having our back and knowing that kind prayers were backing us all the way. No words can ever express the kindness, prayers, and thoughts for my family and myself during this time of crisis in our family. Please continue the prayers and thoughts as we proceed forward in our fight against cancer.

Love you all so, Courtney Smith

p.s. Courtney will finish the planned treatment, but as of right now, the cancer is in remission.

SENIORS: Keep Up With Friends

You are DONE with your high school career and are now an ALUMNI! How awesome! I bet you thought it would never get here.
There are a couple things you need to know about being an Alumni of the Class of 2017:

  • First, you can still keep up wit your friends through MUSTANG (yes, the place where you have gone to get homework).
  • Second, you can still get the MSA Weekly News sent to you.

In order for those two things to happen, you must send me your personal email - not your MSA millsprings.org email because that goes away soon - but your personal email address. Just CLICK HERE and send me that info and I will take care of the rest.

RIGHT NOW you have access to the Alumni Portal in MUSTANG - but when school gets out that access will go away if you don't send me your personal email. So do it today, RIGHT NOW while you are thinking about it. They you can use your current password to access MUSTANG after you graduate to keep up with your friends.

SO CLICK HERE and send me your email address today! OH and keep in touch! We love to hear what is going on with everyone!

Lower has a Luau

Lower School celebrated their last Fab Friday with a Luau. Students listened to beach music while playing Limbo. Lauren Scobee was the ultimate winner! Then they practiced trying out hula hoops. We drank Hawaiian Punch with umbrellas in our drinks. A good time was had by all! Picture 1: Katie McCullers, Duncan Bear, Zoe Caines, Caleb Donaldson, Patrick Keene, Luisa Gorgoll, Lauren Scobee, and Holly Stormont. Picture 2: Aiden Weaver showing off his Limbo skills!

Mad Tea Party

After reading Alice in Wonderland, Erin's Communication Arts 7th and 8th grade classes had their very own mad tea party! The students had a great time doing crafts, eating treats, drinking tea, and playing games. Some of the activities included an 'egg on a spoon' race, a bubble blowing contest, and 'Pin the Grin on the Cheshire Cat'. The kids also decorated tea cups and painted Wonderland related pieces of art. In keeping with the novel, each student wore a nametag with his or her name spelled backwards, and they had a lot of fun trying to pronounce their classmates' new titles. We had a blast celebrating the end of the Alice in Wonderland unit! Pictured is Michael Adams in an egg race with Aaron Breitkopf - Aaron was the winner!

Summer Reading and Math

I know the students will be sad to hear this, but like every other year in the past, there will be summer reading and math for most everyone. We are in the process of getting it all together and out on the website. I hope to have it all available to you by the end of next week. So after that check the following web page for everything you need to know about summer reading and math for your school:

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Guest Journalists - Andrew Buchberger and Zach Burns

6th grade, Middle School

This past month and a half, we read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in Mrs. Gretchen's 4th and 5th period classes. There are 4 main characters. One is a serious lawyer, Mr. Utterson. who is friends with a man named Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Jekyll seems to be a normal person, but he is hiding a dirty secret. There is also a man named Edward Hyde who has been trampling and even murdering people. Mr. Utterson and Dr. Jekyll are also friends with a doctor called Dr. Lanyon. They have been friends since childhood but Dr. Lanyon has been isolating himself from Jekyll more and more for the last 10 years due to a difference of opinion regarding medicine. Jekyll is willing to experiment and to involve the supernatural but Dr. Lanyon is a pedant, which means he is precise in his teaching and concerned about pure science.  READ MORE
