How many books may I check?
Lower School - 2 Middle School - 3 PreUpper, CommArts, Upper Schools - 5
Exceptions may be made upon request, books checked iwth the accompanying audio are considered one item. Good judgement and consideration are expected on the part of teachers and parents in the numbers and timing of library materials requests.
What are the rules about checkouts?
Items are checked for two weeks and may be rechecked depending upon requests from others. Students need to bring items to the library for renewing. Library items may be returned to the Upper School building book return, or to the library.
What about fines?
No fines are charged for overdue items, but students need to return and/or renew any ovedues before additional items are checked.
What if my book is lost or damaged?
The librarian will determine the cost of repairing or rebinding damaged items. Lost items are assessed at the cost of the item, plus a $5.00 service charge for each.
May I check magazines?
Teachers and Level L and R students may have a 48 hour checkout of back issues.
When may students come to the library?
Students may come before or after school, between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm. Class visits are planned collaboratively with teachers. Individuals may come to the library with teacher permission. Teachers call, email, or send a note when individuals or small groups are sent. All students have access through their reading classes weekly. The schedule is provided to teachers and may be negotiated when flexibility is needed. Parents are welcome at any time during normal library hours.
Is there computer access in the library?
Students may be asked to bring their laptops for instructional purposes. Laptops and the library computers may be used to access the library catalog, the Galileo databases, Questia, and Reading Counts. Access to internet sources are at the discretion and under the supervision of the teachers and the librrian. The school's Technology Honor Policy will be observed during use of any computer on campus. The MSA Technology Department maintains and carefully monitors an internet filter.
